Pearlescent and iridescent pigments

Frequently Asked Questions

What are pearlescent or nacreous effect pigments?

They are pigments based on natural mineral mica coated with metal oxides (titanium dioxide, iron oxide) that create optical light-interference effects: pearlescent, metallic, nacreous or iridescent lustre. Luengo Color's Luengopearl range offers effects ranging from silver white to gold tones, vibrant colours and high-gloss finishes, depending on the particle size of the pigment used.

In which industrial sectors are Luengopearl pigments used?

Luengopearl pigments are versatile and are used in sectors such as textile printing and dyeing, leather finishing and tanning, paper printing and colouring, plastics manufacturing, water-based and solvent-based paints for metal and wood, and latex colouring systems. They are chemically stable in dilute acids and bases, non-flammable and resistant to temperatures of up to 300 °C.

Are pearlescent pigments stable at high temperatures?

Yes. Pigments in the Luengopearl range are resistant to temperatures of up to 300 °C, making them suitable for applications involving intensive thermal processes, such as certain plastics, ceramics or glass applications. They are also compatible with both water-based and solvent-based systems, and can be incorporated into all types of polymer without compromising system stability.

Are Luengopearl pigments available in liquid form?

Yes. To make integration into industrial processes easier, the Luengopearl range is available as liquid concentrates. This format makes it easier to disperse the pigment in the formulation, avoids the problems associated with handling powders (airborne dust, difficult dosing) and ensures an even distribution of the effect in the final product.
