Pigments and dyes for paper and cardboard

Frequently Asked Questions

Which colorants are used in the paper and board sector?

The paper and board sector uses very fine water-based pigment dispersions. Luengo Color's Luengoprint FLX range is developed with ultra-milled pigments with a particle size below 0.5 µm, designed specifically for flexographic and digital inkjet printing processes. Applications include labels, paper, folding cartons, corrugated board and flexible packaging.

Are paper pigments suitable for inkjet and flexographic printing?

Yes. The Luengoprint FLX range is designed for digital inkjet and flexographic printing processes. Its extreme micronisation ensures ink stability in the print heads and colour uniformity on the substrate. A selection of products within this range is suitable for certification under standards such as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, GOTS, ZDHC, bluesign or The List.

Are paper colorants free from heavy metals and VOCs?

Yes. The entire Luengoprint range is formulated without VOCs, APEOs or PFAS. The pigments used undergo strict quality controls to guarantee the absence of heavy metals. This makes them suitable for packaging applications where contaminants in the packaging could compromise the safety of the end product, particularly in the food sector and in packaging for children's products.

Are there colorants for food-contact board?

Yes. The Luengoprint CA range complies with the main international regulations for plastic materials in contact with food, including Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 178.3297. It is suitable for colouring food-contact packaging, trays and thermoformed packaging. If the board has an inner plastic lining, this is the recommended range to ensure regulatory compliance.
