Dyes and pigments for industrial paint

Frequently Asked Questions

Which types of industrial paint are Luengo Color's colorants suitable for?

The colorants in Luengo Color's Industrial range are compatible with the main types of solvent-based industrial paint: acrylic paints, long, medium and short-oil alkyds, solvent-borne epoxy paints, two-component polyurethanes, nitrocellulose lacquers and synthetic enamels. This broad compatibility makes them suitable for technical coatings, anti-corrosion coatings and finishing lacquers in demanding industrial environments.

Are industrial pigments suitable for metal paint?

Yes. Luengo Color's Industrial range is formulated for use in metal coatings, including anti-corrosion primers, alkyd enamels and two-component polyurethanes. Up to 30% colorant can be added without altering the key properties of the coating: gloss, hardness, drying times and mechanical and chemical resistance. VOC content is below 150 g/litre.

How are colorants incorporated into the industrial painting process?

Colorants from the Industrial range are added directly during the dispersion stage or the final tinting process, either manually or using automatic dispensers or Plant Tinting. Supplied as solvent-based pigment dispersions, they eliminate the need to incorporate powder pigments: they shorten processing times, prevent agglomeration and ensure consistent colour reproduction from batch to batch.

What are protective coatings and which pigments are used in them?

Protective coatings are formulations designed to protect industrial substrates (metal, concrete, engineered wood) against corrosion, abrasion or chemical exposure. These applications use pigment dispersions with high exterior durability and weather resistance. Luengo Color's Industrial range offers colorants formulated with highly compatible aldehyde resins and exceptional tinting strength thanks to their high degree of micronisation.

Can the same colorant be used in both water-based and solvent-based industrial paints?

Not directly: the base of the colorant must be compatible with the base of the paint. Luengo Color offers two ranges to cover both options: the Industrial range for solvent-borne systems and the Luengonyl range for water-based industrial paints. Both are compatible with industrial tinting systems and can be combined within a single custom system to suit the manufacturer's needs. For water-based systems, we specifically recommend the Luengonyl HR range.
